This project, from what I see, is over. The cheapest accommodation offer on my list as of July 2005 is at www.unclepasha.com/marina.htm. - Pasha

  • Not just "floor space". Mattresses and linen supplied. Fold-out chairs available
  • Warm and airy. No roaches. For the sake of stylistic integrity I'm thinking of acquiring a rat however. Any rodents looking for a good home?
  • Shower
  • Toilet
  • Electric kettle and hot plate
  • Light breakfast on request
  • Warm
  • Quiet
  • Good company (Catherine, Denis, and occasionally me, the famous Uncle Pasha).

But

  • In no earlier than 7pm, out by 9:30am because in the daytime this basement is used as office space. You can hang around all you like on weekends. On other days, if you need to be in, put on an "office" facial expression and stick to office style, eg. no walking to the shower with a towel around your waist. Total freedom durin the off hours however.

  • This is a clandestine operation thus you need to be quiet and discreet to enable the us to continue offering this cheap option without the authorities knowing, which would otherwise immediately raise the price at least twice and place an administrative load on me....

If and only if you are already in Moscow, and if the matter absolutely can't wait, here are our cell phones shown as dialed from anywhere in Russia:

8-916-878-8160
(Catherine, this project's manager)
159-1246 & 8-916-754-0538
(Olesya, who is now on her own with www.russsiangirlfriday.com
but think of her as a reliable backup)

As the last resort call me at
8-916-117-1527 but it better be something extraordinary

Make a note of these numbers and keep them on you at all times you are in Russia but remember that phones are for EXTRAORDINARY SITUATIONS ONLY!!

This cave near my "dacha" near Staritsa (Starica), Tver region, between Moscow and St. Petersburg, somehow seemed appropriate to illustrate the "bomb shelter accommodation" concept. More about staying at my dacha, riding horses in the hills over the Volga, plodding through mud, feeding mosquitoes and otherwise getting your doze of "Real Russia" proceed to

And this is the famous Catherine (Ekaterina Fedorovna, if you prefer to address her Russian style), who is in charge of the "bomb shelter" project, photographed pretending to water plastic flowers in an attempt to look good for the camera to match the "caring Russian babushka" stereotype.

Assistance with shopping, cooking, buying tickets (yes, at local prices, which can save you a bundle!) etc. is available.

New service

I thought it is fundamentally unfair for you to stay in the center of one of the world's most expensive cities for $10/night without rodent infestation. I went out of my way to procure this cutie, called Lunch, and invented this great new rat removal service:

  • $2.98 keeps the rodent away from your visual range

  • Or you can pay per length of separation at the rate of 59 cents/yard.

The service is available for

Lunch-the-Rat was presented to me by the Children's Shelter of the City of Staritsa

PS. My first attempt to inflict this service on a Dutch couple staying in my famous Dutch Loft resulted them in picking their bags, throwing $2 at me, and going. I retaliated into renaming the Dutch Loft into ????? till the next nice Dutch national comes around.
