PS.

I recently got a few inquiries about the upscale part of the Moscow accommodation market, so here you are. Same as with Cheap Hotels, means I've seen a lot of it and indicates I've eaten there.

ARARAT HYATT HOTEL, 4 Neglinnaya ul., Moscow, metro Teatralnaya, Kuznetsky Most, 783-1234.  Excellent location by the Bolshoi. Seems to be quiet.

AEROSTAR, 37 Leningradsky pr., metro Dinamo, Aeroport, Moscow, 213-9000.  Convenient for those who need to be within accessible distance the airport and not far from the city. Good restaurants. Several in fact, all excellent and not that expensive. In my experience clients from hell tend to stay there however.  I was there last time no later than 2002 but still remember the food.

BALTCHUG KEMPINSKI MOSKAU HOTEL, 1 ul. Balchug, metro Novokuznetskaya. +7 (095) 230-65-00. Fax: +7 (095) 230-65-02.  Just oozes with style and dignity. Rooms start at around $400 but they'll rent honeymoon suits for $250 or so. Excellent food.  My apartment www.unclepasha.com/moscow_apartment.htm is a few steps from there, and it will cost you $65. Also, if you want to be in this area on the cheap, note www.unclepasha.com/dutch_loft.htm  and also Asya's Homestay by the Swamp Square.   I especially recommend their breakfasts even if you are not staying there.

BUSINESS HOTEL PROTON, 22 Novozavodskaya ul., metro Bagrationovskaya, 797-3350/3325. A profoundly unpleasant but prestigious location. I think it is in the new business district now being constructed.

KATERINA HOTEL, 6/1 Shlyuzovaya nab., metro Paveletskaya, 795-2444. Excellent recommendation, close to Riverside Towers, the new Opera Hall, and the Paveletsky Station that gives you easy access to the Domodedovo international airport. .

MARCO POLO, 9 Spiridon'yevsky Per., tel +7 (095) 202 0381. Close to Chistye Prudy. Seems to be nice and quiet.

METROPOL, 1/4 Teatralnyj proezd. Tel: +7 (095) 927-60-00. Fax: +7 (095 ) 927-60-10. If you book it through a good agent you may get all this luxury for just over $100.

MARRIOTT Tverskaya Hotel, 34 1st Tverskaia-Yamskaya ul.,metro Mayakovskaya 258-3000.  My impression is that Marriott hotels are really professionally run but are as bland as anything.

MARRIOTT ROYAL AURORA, 11/20 Petrovka ul., metro Teatralnaya, 937-1000.

MEZHDUNARODNAYA HOTEL (international), 12, Krasnopresnenskaya nab., metro Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 258-2122/2051.  Don't know about the hotel but I'll be adding a few comments on the area...

THE NATIONAL, 15/1 Mokhovaya St. Phone: +7 (095) 258-7000 Fax: +7(095) 258-7100.  Good impression.

NOVOTEL, 23 Novoslobodskaya ul., metro Novoslobodskaya, 780-4000.  Lots of ethnic food (Chinese, Japanese) on Novoslobodskaya. Recently a group of three of my clients paid $300 for a night there.

RADISSON SLAVYANSKAYA, 2 Berezhkovskaya nab., metro Kievskaya, 941-8020.   My client has his laptop stolen there.

RENAISSANCE MOSCOW, 18/2 Olimpijskij prospekt, +7 (095) 931-9000. Fax: +7 (095) 931-9076. Cute horse carriage in the basement. Close to the Moscow Book Fair.

SAVOY HOTEL MOSCOW, 3 Rozhdestvenka ul., metro Kuznetsky Most, 929-8500. Close to Moscow's only vegetarian restaurant.

SHERATON PALACE Hotel, 19 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya St, metro Mayakovskaya, Belorusskaya, +7(095) 931-9700 Fax: +7(095) 931-9704. Good food.   Good impressions about food although it's been too long to remember the particulars.

ZOLOTOYE KOLTSO (Golden Ring), 5 Smolenskaya ul., metro Smolenskaya, 725-0100/0186.
