Offers I deem most
valuable tend to be on top of this list.
You can directly
contact most homestay hosts listed here. No in-betweens, no extra cost,
no delays and misunderstandings. Unless you plan to hire me, please
refrain from imposing the role of an agent or go-between on the owner of
this resource. A copy of your enquiry and feedback about your experience
is all I need in most cases, with no further involvement.
Homestays are NOT
for everyone. You will be sharing space with your host/roommate. Think carefully of compatibility. If in doubt,
opt for an apartment or even better a
hotel.
Know of
any good
places to crash cheap? Help your fellow travellers and local hosts by
sharing information. Go the homestay way to get to know the local culture, or
to discover first-hand the lack
thereof. Share your views etc. etc. Hints and recommendations welcomed. Leave
a note in my
Guestbook from where it will eventually get
to this or other lists and/or send me an
e-mail.
A few hosts have discontinued
receiving guests or I took them off because of consistently and
convincingly negative feedback. Please share negative information too.
Especially negative information.
Adding your
offer here is free and easy. Just
e-mail
me the text and it will be added within hours and uploaded within days.
It is your responsibility to monitor that your information shows up.

Fellow
Muscovites!
Got a spare room? LIVING
ROOM COUCH?
Make new
friends and let them subsidize your utility bills! Offer a room or even
a living room couch to backpackers. Appropriate rates are from
$10/night for the humblet of "floor space" to $30 for a good room. Send a short description for this
list. Many travellers are not looking for anything fancy,
just
cheap and with
character... I'll even
make a page and feature your offer I deem particularly valuable! Need an
English teacher? Post your offer on my
Board, or
e-mail it to me to be
added to the Free Accommodation
page, or go to my
big list of Russian travel resources, to the Forums section... |

Dear Pasha,
We have recently opened a new mini-hotel in the center of Moscow near
the
Suharevka and Chisty Prudi metro stations. It's called Suharevka
mini-hotel.
It's a family-owned business with 12 individual guest rooms. We've
rennovated each with lots of care and have done our best to make it a
cozy
and friendly place for guests to stay.
Our prices are in the economy range and much, much cheaper than any
hotel
you'd find in the center. Prices are are the par with what you'd find
at
a hostel, but something rather nicer.
We are hoping that you might share this information on your site.
The web site is :

Occasionally I, the owner of
this site, can avail you a room/mattress in exchange for a $40/night

details are here.
The location is as central as it gets. Do think of compatibility
issue before considering staying with me. See
description and photos of the apartment and of the neighbourhood.
Backpackers usually stay in the loft but if you are older and
grouchier and more afflicted by sciatica or arthritis or whatever it
is than I am, I will probably yield you the small bedroom
downstairs. |

Galina's apartment. Hostel type
living arrangement with bunk beds at $10-something. Chistye Prudy
area. Location just doesn't get any better. Responds to inquiries fast. Lots
of cats in the house.
See the Lonely Planet discussion of Galina's Dorm. And let me
use this opportunity to
declare that I don't like the LP types. Not because they are cheap.
With that I could live. There is such thing however as knowing too
much and trying to do things just too right, which means a barrage
of e-mails. The administrative overhead over-informed
backpackers generate is several times greater than that of an
average travelling millionaire. Go figure. - That was Nov. 20,

You will
never meet Marina, but her son, a total asocial, rude and autistic
teenager, who opens the door and ask you 1) When do you go out/be
back home: there is only one housekey; 2) You stay x.. nights, so it
will be x.. X 1500 roubles: do you can all pay now ?; and sudden
runs to his computer to tap nevrotically as continuously day and
night, persiuing devils and hitches, eating twice a day at the
nearby mac do (that helps you having an idea when to get out or come
back: he holds the key). Never expect any spontanuous attention from
that human being (?)

Attention
Economy Class Travellers:
Don't be wasters. Don't contact 10 people to see when you can save
your pathetic two bucks. Show up when expected. If you want things to
remain available and cheap, don't gobble up time and energy of
hosts, agents, and especially the increasingly irritable owner of this site. The irony
is that your average successful businessman exchanges three or four
e-mails to rent an apartment or to arrange for a service. For a backpacker the figure is 8-12. Want thing cheap?
Then act in a cost effective way. - Pasha |

from $25/day

Waiting for something to happen? If you need to pass time quietly and
inexpensively, consider my dacha near Staritsa, Tver region. For $25 you
will get a roof over your head and above-average (compared to Russian
rural standard) conveniences that include an open hearth and hot water
supply. And a horse in the barn to help you stay in shape. Want to
experience the luxury of total inactivity? For $50/day someone will be
appointed to cook, to keep the "banya" hot, to saddle the horse for you,
to carry in firewood, and otherwise make sure you need to do nothing to
keep yourself comfortable. Located near Staritsa, Tver region, 4-5 hours
from Moscow and 6-7 from St. Petersburg.
