Accommodation between Moscow and St. Petersburg
|
Go to my NEW project
www.staritsa.info
for anything between Moscow and St. Petersburg or along the Golden
Ring or anything else someone travelling between the two capitals
may conveivably end up. |
Note: All numbers are shown
as dialed long distance within Russia since I anticipate you'll be
making most of your travel arrangements from Moscow or St. Petersburg.
Compulsive overplanners complicate their lives and those of their
brethren by dialing whatever it takes to to get to the international
line (011 from the US and Canada?), then 7 instead of 8, and then the
rest of the number.

Check out the Sanatoruims page.
I tried to concentrate on those along plausible routes that can be
when travelling between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. |
Klin
Right on the main highway, 70 or so km north-west from Moscow.
Main attraction: the Tchaikovsky Museum.
- Hotel "Gosniny Dvor", ul. Dzerzhinskogo 4, tel. 8-09624-25313.
If travelling towards Moscow, turn right at the "to Volokolvamsk"
sign and go one or two blocks to Dzerzhinskogo. Well-known Alex
cafe is next door to the hotel. 400-600 roubles ($14-21) get you
are very basic room. Army blankets, the lower 2/3 of the wall are
khaki, the rest is whitewashed. Facilities on the first floor. The
staff on the other hand is friendly and cooperative, and will be
happy to give you extra not just out of their natural goodness but
also to get back at the owner who actively pursues minimal service
to maximize profit policy. No sound insulation. I checked in
Sunday night - which is the night when Russians try to catch up on
partying.
- Vera Mikhailovna Konstantinova, Sanatourim manager, tel.

New Jerusalem.
......Also note the New Jerusalem museum. I believe a tour in
English can be ordered, when their English-speaking guide is
available, at the cost of around 1000 roubles ($35US). Tel.: 8 (231)
49787.

Tver
Being close to my dacha, Tver is documented on my
www.russian-horse-rides.com page. Lots of hotels. No homestay
type options yet discovered in Tver despite a lot of looking. |
| Yaropolets Hotel
or "House of Rest"
8-236-63-110, 8-236-63-134
Director: Yuri Alexandrovich Golubeb
In the Soviet days Yaropolets, formerly a writers' and
artists' hangout, was famous because of the first hydro stations
in the Soviet Russia, build directly under Lenin's patronage. The
People's Museum of Yaropolets is largely dedicated to early Soviet
drive to "electrify" collective farms. Open 10 to 5, closed
Mondays, Museum director - Tatiana Victorovna Kozlova, tel.

Staritsa, Tver region
OK, the whole point of this exercise it to entice you to my dacha near
Staritsa. The dacha accommodation option, politely marketed as "authentic",
is also described at
www.russian-horse-rides.com. Those who understandibly want nothing to do
with me may consider the Volga hotel in Staritsa. Contact details are on my
www.unclepasha.com/staritsa_eng.htm page. No problem with foreigners and
they will even put the stamp on your visa with a minimum of fuss. $10-25 per
room. |
|
Volokolamsk
Coming up soon, have info somewhere. Technically no foreigners allowed but
if you have a "nice" Russian with you they'll register you all to his
passport. About $10/room.
|
Novgorod
Stayed at the train station hotel. $30 for 5 of us! OK except cigarette
smoke. Contact details will be added soon. Puzzled at foreign passports.
Have one Russian national with you if you can. |
