A
cheap, quiet, renovated, and cozy room from Natalia Alexandrovna (Snejana's mother)
Nearest metro stations: VDNKh and Alexeyevskaya,
then 10 min. by trolly or mini-bus. Near the National Exhibition grounds, Kosmos Hotel, Ostankino TV tower,
Botanical Gardents,
Ostankino Estate with a
palace and a park.. A very civilized sort of an area if you stay away
from the buying and selling crowds at the National Exhibition.
The
building is an early 1970s stagnation era concrete panels construction.
The apartment is decorated in the 70s style, with
LOTS of house plants being its one outstanding feature. Somewhat
cluttered. Your room-mate is an exceptionally quiet young woman, a
vet.
[ASK SNEJ FOR OLESYA'S PHOTO]
WARNING: DECLINE HER OFFERS OF
FOOD. SHE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CONFUSE RAT POISON WITH VITAMINS. NO
CONCEPT THAT FOODSTUFF HAS EXPIRY DATES.

OTHERWISE A NICE GIRL. SPEAKS
ENGLISH TOO.
[Sept. 22 2009 - A note from
Snejana that Olesya's English consists of two words. One is "no"
which is to be taken at its face value. Another one is "flores",
which is to be understood as "house plants". Thus "no flores"
indicated "do NOT forget to water house plants if you are left
in the apartment alone for more than a couple of days". Welcome
to the thick of life and to the free ongoing theatre of the
absurd. It was enjoyable for the first 3-4 years.]
The rate is 20Euro/night single, 25/night
couple.
Small discounts possible if you stay a week or longer, eg.
120Euros/week. The monthly
rate I recommend for this room is 400Euro.
Snejana and her mom
are offering their property to travellers for the first time and it
is thus quite important not to create problems/hassles and to leave
the place in the same or better state then you found it, or else
the host will get discouraged and a super offer like this one will
be taken off. Please encourage these super-cheap offers by being
clean, quiet, and reliable.
I plan to stay there for a few days during one of my visits to Moscow. Watch for my
report on the room and the neighbournood. Snejana has an excellent sense of
proportion and colour and everything she touches becomes light and cozy.
She regularly helps me with the
dacha/horses project and I just can't get used to what she can make
out of any given space. Her room can be recommended to anyone who is looking for a
"feel like home" place. On the other hand, you are expected to behave
like you would at home, eg. take your shoes off, don't smoke, leave the
place clean etc. This is NOT a hotel. Nor is it an apartment that is
commercially rented out. This understanding on your part is essential
for offers like Snejana's to remain available.
Disclaimers:
The
entrance hall is a mess. Local
alcoholics sit on the stairs, with
broken bottles all around. Good shopping
and cafes at least 15 min. walk but a
small store is next door.
The neighbours on the other side of
the wall are old and sensitive to noise. Thus only quiet guests
please. No partying, no slamming doors etc.
